A leading news agency today run opinionated story titled as ‘Gandhi Jayanti no longer a holiday in BJP-ruled Goa’.
These words ‘BJP-ruled’ in the title show that the author is prejudiced. The report contains more non-factual stuff that has been highlighted.
The news story reads: In a decision that could spark nationwide outrage, the BJP government in Goa has dropped Gandhi Jayanti on October 2 from the list of public holidays.Gandhi Jayanti, the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, has not been marked as a holiday in the current year’s calender, released yesterday.
As usual, the anti-BJP section of vocal liberal minority on social media including pseudo secular and NGO types, leftists, apologetic Hindus, Church associated ones have started attacking BJP for this decision, while most of the common people are welcoming it, as Gandhi himself would not have favored holiday on his birth anniversary.
But the question is, whether the Goa government has actually dropped Gandhi Jayanti holiday?
This link of Goa government calendar suggests that Gandhi Jayanti is very much there as a holiday in government calendar.
The news report from the agency meanwhile says: Though the government is yet to formally clarify the rationale behind the decision, a senior official from the General Administration Department said it had the approval of government.Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar was not available for comment on the issue.
