The Department of Telecom (DoT) has issued a notice to Gujarat Naramada Valley Fertilisers and Chemicals demanding Rs 2,752 crore in licence fee, interest and penalty for its V-SAT and ISP licences.
Gujarat Naramada Valley Fertilisers has challenged the DoT notices in TDSAT which last week restrained the DoT from taking any coercive action.
In a BSE filing, Gujarat Naramada Valley said DoT notices demanding Rs 2,725 crore under provisional assessment basis is contrary to the licence agreement. The demand is “totally erroneous, frivolous, arbitrary, unjust and the same is not sustainable in law,” it added.
The notices were issued on February 9, 2015.
“As such, the company has already surrendered the space segment way back in March, 2009 and earlier in December, 2007 surrendered the ISP Port Circuit to VSNL and hence, there was no possibility of generating any revenue whatsoever from VSAT and ISP business during the aforesaid period,” the filing said.
