Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) has allowed State Owned Distribution Companies(DISCOMs) in Gujarat to increase the power tariff by 13 paise per unit.
There has been no increase in power tariff for Below Poverty Line(BPL) and Agriculture consumers.
Also there has been no increase in tariff for the first 200 units of monthly consumption by residential consumers.
Demand charge for night time usage of electricity at High Tension voltage level has been reduced from 1/2 to 1/3rd of normal High Tension consumers. According to GERC, this will help the DISCOMs to utilize generation resources which otherwise require backing down in the off-peak hours and on the other hand it will increase the competitiveness of HTP-IV consumers by reducing their energy bills.
Overall increase for all the other categories of consumers is 13 paise per unit that includes increase in fixed/demand charge and energy charges. The increase is to the tune of 2.47%.
The four state owned companies are DGVCL, MGVCL, PGVCL and UGVCL.
There’s no increase in fixed charge of single phase residential consumers. There is a increase in fixed charges by Rs. 5 per month per installation for three phase residential consumers. It is estimated that this will increase in tariff rates there will be additional revenue to the tune of Rs. 780.90 crore for the four DISCOMs.
This order shall come into force with effect from the 1st April, 2015. The revised tariff shall be applicable for the electricity consumption from the 1st April, 2015 onwards.
The Additional Surcharge of Rs. 0.98/KWh shall be applicable to the consumers of MGVCL, UGVCL, PGVCL and DGVCL, who avail power through open access from any source other than their respective DISCOMs and for the open access transaction commencing from 1st April, 2015 to 30th September, 2015.
