A unique kind of scam has been unearthed by BJP Councillor Nilesh Rathod in Vadodara.
Waste collection vehicles active in city are paid by Vadodara Municipal Corporation(VMC) on the basis of weight of waste they have collected.
The VMC pays Rs. 950 per 1,000 kg of waste collected by waste collection vehicles. Every day 1,000 tonne waste is collected on an average from entire Vadodara. There 750 vehicles on contract under three contractors.
Nilesh Rathod had received complain that contractors dump heavy stone in waste collection vehicle to show more weight, so that they can claim more money from VMC.
Rathod went to Tarsali Danteshwar ring road area and checked waste collection vehicles. He found huge stones of building material waste in containers of waste collection vehicles. Rathod straight away visited Mujmahuda based waste collection site where waste collection vehicles were standing in queue for weighing. Rathod recovered heavy stones from containers and called his colleagues. Mayor, Municipal Commissioner, Standing Committee Chairman etc rushed to the site and assured action against those responsible.
