Class-4 and Nursing staff strike hit AMC run hospitals

Class-4 employees of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation(AMC) run hospitals including VS Hospital, LG Hospital, Shardaben Hospital and Nagri Hospital went on strike on Wednesday.
AMC has invoked ESMA against the strike and asked employees to rejoin the duty or face action.
The strike started with some clash between a ward boy and relatives of a patient who died allegedly due to negligence by nursing staff in AMC run LG Hospital on Tuesday night. First the nursing staff went on strike, and later class-4 employees joined the strike demanding recruitment on vacant posts, permanent job to those who have completed 900 days as temporary worker.
‘Naukar Mandal’ a union of class-4 employees is trying to expand the strike by inviting AMC run local bus transport service(AMTS) staff and pumping staff at water works to join it.
Strike in hospital resulted into suspension of nearly 100 operations in AMC run hospitals. 108 emergency ambulance service was asked to take emergency patients to state government run Civil hospital. Also some serious patients were transferred to Civil hospital.
