Attack on govt function in Vadodara: 7 including a woman arrested

Vadodara

The Government and the city unit of ruling Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) has taken yesterday’s attack over government function in Vadodara very seriously. Generally, protests do occur, but yesterday’s protest by local people during the government function was not just another protest. Deputy Mayor of city who is a woman had suffered multiple injured due to yesterday’s protest.

She had to be taken to private hospital where she received multiple sutures for cuts on her mouth. She sustained injuries on her forehead and skull. She will need to have corrective cosmetic surgery post healing. Not just Deputy Mayor but Municipal Commissioner HS Patel’s bodyguard also suffered injury while trying to save HS Patel from violent mob of people. Locals had damaged tent, banners, chairs also during their protest yesterday during the government function. The party and the government believe that such violent protest, such cruel attack over a woman deputy Mayor is just unacceptable.

Locals in Gotri area were opposing government function which was held for performing ground breaking for affordable housing scheme. Locals don’t want affordable housing units to come up on this plot as they believe the prices of property in this area will come down, and the area will be further congested. Locals want garden or open passage or road instead of housing scheme which will bring 100s of new people from lower economic class in this area.

Police today caught 7 persons including a woman for their alleged involvement in yesterday’s protest. They are booked under IPC sections pertaining to rioting and attempt to murder. Search for more culprits is going on. Police also want to check whether there was politics involved in this protest or not, as powerful BJP Minister and local MLA Saurabh Patel was also present in the function and he had to leave the function following violent protest.

Police has filed FIR against 17 and rioting case has been filed against the group of 80-100 persons.
