AMC seals 165 properties, Manek Chawk jewelers go on strike

Jewelers in Manek Chawk area of wall city Ahmedabad today observed strike protesting Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation(AMC)’s sealing drive.
This happened after AMC today sealed 165 residential properties that are used for commercial purposes.
AMC said 267 notices were served and replied were sought in 10 days period for not one but three times, however jewelers didn’t take notice seriously. The actions are taken following High Court order.
There are 405 such properties in total.
Jewelers said they may challenge AMC action in court. They said why only this zone has been targeted. They also said that this trade is going on for last many decades.
Jewelers said they pay all tax and bills as per commercial tariff. They said they also have Gumasta dhara registration.
