IMD Ahmedabad office Director on prospects of rain in Gujarat
July 06, 2015
Ahmedabad
It was another dry day in Ahmedabad and Gujarat in monsoon season.
According to agricultural experts, if there’s no rain in next one week, it will cause major damage to seeds/crops in non-irrigated land across Gujarat including in Saurashtra which a few days back saw flood due to very heavy rains.
Meanwhile, IMD Ahmedabad office Director Jayant Sarkar said, there’s no supporting system for rain in Gujarat as of now.
“it is true that if this dry spell goes longer, it will not be good for farmers.”
“We expect chances of emerging system in Bay of Bengal at around 10-11th of this month. However, we can’t say whether that system will move towards Gujarat or not.”
“If at all that system moves in this direction, our central Gujarat and north Gujarat regions will get good rain.”
“So far there has been 22% rain in Gujarat. First week of July has already gone and Gujarat has not received rain.”
“If there’s system in Bay of Bengal, we can react to it.”
