At a time when the police and intelligence sleuths were trying hard to solve the mystery of the series of attacks on key witnesses in various cases against Asaram Bapu, his son Narayan Sai, who is also behind bars in an alleged rape case here, today claimed that the witnesses were targeted by those who didn’t want them to ‘come out’.
Talking briefly to the media here during his production in the court of Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) judge R C Vachhani, Sai also expressed sadness over such attacks.
‘Those who don’t want us (Sai and his jailed father Asaram) to come out of the jail are doing this (attacking the witnesses),’ he said while being taken back to Lajpore central jail from the court situated in Afwa lines area of the city. He, however, did not elaborate on who were behind the attacks.
So far nine witness have been attacked of whom two, Ahmedabad based Amrut Prajapati and Uttar Pradesh resident Krupal Singh, had died.
Meanwhile, Sai’s advocate Kalpesh Desai said his client was produced in the ACB court in connection with the bribery case. The statement of a witness was recorded today and the next date of hearing was fixed for August 4.
The bribery case is related to the alleged attempt of Sai to weaken the cases against him by paying money to police, court people and others concerned. A police officer was nabbed in this connection with a large sum of money.
Sai is lodged in Surat jail since his arrest in December 2013 while Asaram is in Jodhpur jail since September that year. One of the two sisters had alleged that Sai had raped her repeatedly. The other sister had made similar allegations against Asaram.
