Irate mob on rampage in VMC office, loot dustbins

Vadodara

Irate mob today went on rampage in a office of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation in ward number 4 of the city reportedly looting a large number of dustbins after damaging the office, Official sources said.

In fact the corporation had announced free distribution of dustbins to the people of that area today as a measure to promote cleanliness as part of Swachchh Bharat campaign. A big crowd of the locals gathered near the VMC office and stood in a queue that was over half a kilometer long. But to their utter disappointment the distribution did not take off owing to the absence of the concerned officials who were reportedly busy with the launch of Garib Kalyan Mela  programme of the Chief Minister.

The impatient mob later went on rampage breaking open the doors of the office go-down and looting hundreds of dustbins kept there. The other staffs of the office were also hustled but they some how managed to save some of the dustbins, the sources said.

The number of looted dustbins was being estimated. However, the corporation was not much concerned about the lost dustbins as these, in any case, would serve the purpose of cleanliness. They however lodged a complaint with the police to prevent any repeat of damage to the office property, the sources said.

A similar incident was also reported in a different part of the city a few days ago. The corporation had announced free distribution drive almost six months ago. It was being distributed for the past three four days.
