Claiming that Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi has stooped the Indian democracy to a new low by their indecent remarks against Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj in Lalit Modi episode, Senior BJP leader and Union Minister of Environment, Forests and Climate Change Prakash Javadekar today alleged that the main opposition party, unable to digest its humiliating Loksabha poll defeat, was now following a policy of ‘spit and run’.
He also alleged that Congress was trying to disrupt the parliament only with the intention to block the passage of Goods and Services Tax (GST) bill which if passed would increase the growth rate by 2 percent and make Prime Minister Narendra Modi even more popular.
Mrs. Gandhi had called Mrs. Swaraj an expert of theatrics while Rahul in another scathing attack had equated her with ‘thieves’.
Addressing a press conference here Mr. Javadekar said, ‘ the mother-son duo (Sonia and Rahul) have adopted a new style. But the language they were using against Sushmaji was indecent and was breaking all limits of democratic manners. They were calling her a thief and inquiring about the income of her husband and daughter who were by profession lawyers. What they are doing was never done before in the public life and it has stooped it so low. Rather than asking the income of Mr. Swaraj they should ask it from their party leaders like Kapil Sibbal and Salman Khursheed who were also advocates by profession.’

Reiterating that Mrs, Swaraj was innocent, he alleged that in fact congress was responsible for the escape of former IPL chief Lalit Modi. ‘The congress which let Modi flee out of the country like it did in the cases of Bhopal gas tragedy culprit Anderson and Bofors case accused Ottavio Quattrochhi should answer the country as to how much money was paid to it for this. How much money was paid for not declaring Lalit Modi a fugitive or issuing only blue corner notice instead of red corner one,’ the BJP leader said.
Rejecting the Congress protests over suspension of its members, the minister also claimed that the then speaker during Congress rule under Rajiv Gandhi government in 1989 had suspended 62 opposition members from the parliament and the party had done so with 14 of its own members from Telangana in the last Loksabha for not letting the house function.
‘We were even ready to break the ice and propose the revoking of the suspension on Thursday. Parliamentary affairs minister Venkaiah Naidu had a talk with the leaders of opposition in both the houses but to no avail as the party seems pre determined to hamper the proceedings with a view to stall the important bills especially the GST bill which has a deadline for April 1, 2016. This is their own bill but see the irony they are not letting it pass. The problem with congress is that they are still unable to reconcile with their historic defeat. They don’t even have the number of 55 Lok sabha MPs to claim the leader of opposition post. Earlier they thought of them as Britishers in whose empire the sun never set.,’ he said.
However, claiming to be an optimist, he said that there were still a few days left in the monsoon session and the important bills could be passed if congress showed a responsible attitude.
