Porbandar Customs has detained a tug boat ‘PSB-1’ owned by Iran based company.
The tug boat from Iran had arrived at Bhavnagar coast for demolition at Alang shipbreaking yard. It was tied up with another ship for this journey.
There was some dispute between Alang based ship breaker and owner of tug boat Iran based Mr Hameed.
While Hameed ordered sailors to come back to Iran with tug boat, the ship breaker in Alang challenged this decision in court as he had already released partial payment for purchase of tug boat in order to demolish it at Alang ship breaking yard.
While the tug boat was on its way to Iran, there was shortage of fuel and therefore it stopped at Porbandar for diesel.
Porbadnar Customs division staff detained the tug boat along with captain Raviranjan, chief Tofiq Mohammad(Karachi), Malik Ahmed(Karachi), Mohammad Ibrahim(Karachi), Mohammad Afsar(Karachi), Irfan Khan among others.
