Around 18000 security personnel including 10 superintendents of police (SPs) and over 35 DySP rank officials would be deployed in Ahmedabad on August 25 to take care of the law and order during the proposed pro reservation mega-rally of politically strong Patel community of Gujarat, official sources informed today.
‘The commissioner of police of Ahmedabad had written to the police headquarter for the provision of additional force in the wake of the rally in which a large crowd is expected to assemble. The same has been granted,’ the sources said.

‘Apart from the 10 SPs and over 35 DySPs, 140 police inspectors (PI), around 430 sub inspectors (PSI), 580 women police, over 5000 constables would be deployed,’ they said.
‘ 90 companies of the state reserve police (SRP), 4 of Rapid Action Force and 15 of Special Operation Group (SOG) would also be the part of the elaborate security arrangements. At least one company of the SRP with 90 jawans would be deployed on the Sabarmati Riverfront, one of the parking venues of the rally during which a meeting would be held at the GMDC ground. The SRP jawans at the riverfront would take special care of any accidental fall in the river,’ the sources said.
‘As a precautionary measure an IG rank official and a stand by SRP company would also be deployed in the adjoining districts of Mahesana, Anand and capital city Gandhinagar,’ the sources said.
The Patidar Anamat Aandolan Samiti (PASS) has claimed that over 25 lakh people of the community would join the mega rally. They are demanding inclusion of Patel community in other backward classes (OBC) category for reservation benefits. They have already organised several big rallies across the state.
