Surat
Surat Diamond Association(SDA) has formed a Peace Committee, permission of which will need to be taken by anyone associated with diamond market to hold agitation programme. Diamond market in Surat has suffered crores of Rupees of loss due to closure of market during Patidar agitation for quota in govt jobs and college admissions. Yesterday when BJP workers were bursting crackers in Varachha area to celebrate Chief Minister’s announcements for unreserved class students, Patidar agitators gathered and formed a mob and started stone pelting, as a result of which police arrested at least 22 including some diamond traders and booked around 4,000. Today, a group of diamond industry workers gathered outside the Diamond Association office demanding release of diamond traders arrested yesterday. It should be mentioned that a square located next to the diamond market has become hub of agitating and violence activities in connection with Patidar agitation demanding quota. Whenever something or other happens which is not acceptable to few leaders of Patidar agitation outfit, the square is taken in to ban, as a result of which the diamond industry units located just next to the square suffers. ‘Enough is enough’, the association decided today and formed a peace committee, permission of which shall be needed to hold any agitation or protest. Dominated by Patels from rural Saurasthra, the Diamond industry has been extremely peace loving and crime-free zone so far. Crores of Rupees of diamonds are traded in open without any fear of crime. But Patidar agitation recently has given bad name to entire area, community associated with and diamond industry itself.
