Rs 1 crore relief to kin of each of the 9 Patidars dead

A less known trust in Gujarat today announced to give Rs. one crore to the family members of each of the nine people who died during the state wide violence of August 25 and 26 that broke out following the police action against Patidar Anamat Aandolan Samiti (PAAS) leaders in GMDC ground in Ahmedabad after a massive rally in support of their demand of inclusion of the Patel or Patidar community in OBC category for reservation benefits.

SPS trust, a newly formed trust of the doctors of Patel community, has claimed that it would hand over the announced amount withing three months time.

Dr. Mansukh Kanani, the trustee of the SPS trust, told newsmen in Bhavnagar today that the trust would collect the sum from over 7000 doctors and the members of the Patidar community which has over one crore population in the state. ‘Money won’t be a problem for us. We would also collect donations from Patel community doctors and others leaving abroad. We would ensure that the sum announced is given to the family members of the nine deceased withing three months,’ he claimed.

The trust would also give monetary assistance to the injured members of the community during the violence which claimed altogether 10 lives including that of a police constable from Surat. Many of the deceased died in police firing.

Dr. Kanani also claimed that the trust would give financial assistance for the legal expenses with regard to the agitation.

Religious body of Kadva Patels extends support to non-violent Patidar Agitaion

A prominent religious body of Kadva Patidar or Patel community in Gujarat the Umiya Mata Trust of Unjha today declared its formal support to the ongoing pro reservation agitation of the community albeit in Gandhian way.

The Karobari Samiti of the organization also constituted a technical committee to study the Mukhyamantri Yuva Swavlamban Yojana scheme announced by the chief minister recently for reservation like benefits to the economically weaker sections of all categories.

‘The meeting of the Karobari Samiti held in the Umiya Mata temple premises in Unjha town of Mahesana district passed an unanimous resolution with the support of all the 281 members today to support the agitation although in non-violent Gandhian way,’ member of the Samiti Kirit Patel told newsmen after the meeting.

The influential religious body earlier did not openly come forward to support the agitation.

Meanwhile sources said that a meeting in Ahmedabad was held prior to the Karobari Samiti meeting during which it was decided to make the announcement today.

The body will also explore the legal and constitutional ways to get reservation for the community, Mr. Patel informed.
