22 Patidar community persons held for rioting, stone pelting and attack last week are released on bail.
Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) had given a programme of celebration at Mangadh chowk in Surat near Sardar Patel statue following Gujarat Chief Minister’s announcement on Swavlamban Yojana last week.
The celebration programme was attacked by a mob of local Patidars. Stone attack targeted not just BJP workers but also local police. 22 persons were arrested by police and produced before court on Friday. As per court order they failed to get bail and were sent to judicial custody(prison).
However yesterday they filed fresh bail plea and were released on bail for Rs 15,000 bond.
It should be mentioned here that local diamond market was shaken last week with arrests of these 22 persons, some of them associated with diamond business. A decision was later taken by Surat Diamond Association that protest and other programmes should not be permitted at Mangadh chowk – Sardar Patel statue as such programmes result into violence, due to which the diamond industry suffers.
