Ahmedabad

The anti terrorist squad (ATS) of Gujarat police from Ahmedabad has nabbed a BSNL employee, who is also a priest in a temple in Sayla town of Surendranagar district with over 102 counterfeit notes of Rs 1000 denomination and was trying to arrest two of his associates to find out whether it has any link with Pakistan or Bangladesh based fake Indina currency circulating gangs, official sources said today.
ATS PSI C R Jadav said that the culprit was nabbed from Bavla town of Ahmedabad at around 11 pm last night on a tip off. ‘He was carrying 102 serially printed fake notes of Rs. 1000. We are now trying to nab two of his aides Magan and Vikram and would try to find out whether they had any link with the Pak or Bangladeshi fake currency gangs,’ he said.

The ATS was also trying to verify the claims that the culprit, a telephone mechanic with BSNL and also a part time priest of the Swamy Narayan temple in Sayla, around 125 km form here, was printing the notes inside the temple.

The raid was conducted on the basis of information received from a person who was nabbed in Vadodara city last week with a few fake notes.

‘We have booked him under section 489 and 120 B of the IPC and would seek his remand for further interrogation to reach the bottom of the gang,’ Mr. Jadav said.
