The seventh edition of PlexpoIndia, an international plastics exhibition organized by Gujarat State Plastic Manufacturers Association (GSPMA) will be held from January 7 to 11 in Gandhinagar in which around 500 exhibitors including overseas exhibitors from China, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia and Taiwan would participate.
Addressing a press conference here today GSPMA president Nitin Shah said delegations from Kenya, Nigeria, Middle East, Tanzania and Sri Lanka would also participate in the five day event.

‘The main objective of this year’s exhibition is to promote the plastic business in non plastic segments which use plastic components. The auto hub in Gujarat near Sanand is also a big consumer of plastic items. During the exhibition such industries will be requested to use Gujarat based plastic units as their vendors for plastic components. Statistics reveal that Gujarat is witnessing an annual growth of over 12% in plastic industry. It accounts for around 15% in the overall national exports. We also want to increase the current 10% share of the plastic Industry to the GDP further,’ he said adding around 70% of polymers were produced in Gujarat alone which has one fifth the total around 55000 plastic industry units in the country.
‘The per capita consumption of plastic in our county is still low as compared to that of many other countries. It implies that there was immense growth potential of the industry which currently has given direct and indirect employment to 36 lakh people,’ he said.
