“One person died and two others were trapped under the debris of Khanpur Darwaja (gate) after half of the gate collapsed over them when it was being renovated by the city civic authority,” Deputy Chief Fire officer Rajesh Bhatt told PTI.
After receiving the information, a fire brigade team rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation, Bhatt said.

“The rescue operation is still on and we are trying to save those trapped under the debris,” he said.
The Khanpur Darwaja is one of the twelve iconic gates built by the erstwhile emperors to protect the city. As per the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) records, it was built almost six hundred years ago.
