Mild tremors were felt in Gujarat following the 7.7 intensity earthquake epicentred in Hindukush area of Afganistan which also jolted various parts of North India including NCR Delhi.
People in some areas of Ahmedabad and other cities of Gujarat came out of their residences and offices sensing the tremor but no loss of life or property has been reported in the state.
The Institute of Seismological Research (Bhukamp sanshodhan Kendra Ahmedabad) Sceintist B K Rastogi said that the intensity of the tremor was quite low at 3 on the modified Mercalli scale in the state. Only those living in high rise building could have felt it.
He said that there was no reason to panic about it as the epicenter was quite far away.
‘There could have been concerns had it been in centered in Kutch or some other part of the state. There will be many more mild to very mild aftershocks but it won’t even be felt by those living in one, two or three storyed buildings,’ he said.
