The Gujarat State Election Commission (SEC) has instructed the state government to transfer a senior police official of Kheda-Nadiyad, anywhere outside the district for free and fair conduct of the upcoming local body polls in the state this month.
The instruction to transfer Nadiyad, Deputy Superintendent of Police H A Rathod outside the district has come in the wake of a complaint from a local Mr. Girdhari who had expressed apprehensions that the police officer, posted in the district for a very long period, have proximity to local political leaders and he might influence the polls.
Taking note of the letter, the commission has issued instructions to transfer the DSP.
The two phased local polls will be held on November 22 (in the six municipal corporations) and November 29 (56 municipalities, 31 district panchayats and 230 taluka panchayats)
