BJP retains urban Gujarat, Congress gains big in rural Gujarat

Ahmedabad
Local body poll results in Gujarat declared today bring good news for Congress party as it has gained in terms of number of district and taluka bodies under its control, and has also gained in terms of number of seats overall across municipality, taluka and district panchayat and municipal corporations.
There’s no doubt that Patidar factor has impacted the results, but not everywhere. Congress has been for the first time successful to get victory in some traditionally pro-BJP Patidar dominated pockets.
Good news for BJP is that the party is emerging winner in all municipal corporations and good number of municipalities too. Some consolation for the party is also that many Patidar pockets have still voted BJP handsomely.
