At present only Yellow Gate Police station in Mumbai is registered for EEZ on India’s western coast while for eastern coast there’s similar police station in Kolkata.
According to Gujarat Police, Gujarat has proposed a coastal police station at Porbandar, as Porbandar has also presence of Coast Guard.
EEZ juridiction will give power to handle cases pertaining to 12-200 nautical mile area off Gujarat coast.
Whether it’s an incident of firing on fishing boat or recovery of narcotics off Gujarat coasts, the cases are transferred to Yellow Gate police station in Mumbai due to exclusive power it enjoys pertaining to deal with cases in EEZ area. With similar power to Porbandar based Navabandar Coastal Police station, probe will be possible locally.
