The sudden cold wave being experienced in Gujarat with an appreciable drop in temperatures is going to be there for at least another 24 hours, Director of the Ahmedabad Met Center Mr. Jayanta Sarkar said today.
Mr. Sarkar said that the reason behind the cold wave, which has caused temperatures to go appreciably below normal in several parts of the state, was the northerly wind bringing the chillness after the heavy snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir caused by western disturbances.
He said that the place with minimum temperature in the state this morning was Naliya in Kutch with 7 degree Celsius. Ahmedabad city has recorded a minimum temperature of 8.8 degree Celsius which was 3 to 4 degree below normal and falls under appreciably below normal category.
Some places in the state have seen a drop of up to six degree in the temperature overnight.
‘The cold wave warning was issued yesterday itself and it is going to remain there for another at least 24 hours with maximum effect in Saurashtra and Kutchh region.’ the met center director said.
