Around 700 dolls gifted by the rotary clubs of various countries have allegedly been stolen from the go-down of the Rotary dolls museum in the city, police said today.
The trustees of the club, which had a collection of around 1700 such dolls (including the stolen ones) from around 110 countries, have lodged a complaint in the Bhaktinagar police station.
The museum has 1000 dolls on display in its main building in Yagnik road while the remaining 700 were kept in the go-down in a private building in Bhaktinagar. The alleged theft was noticed this morning when the museum employees went to the go-down for the annual stock counting exercise. A net like window structure was found broken and all the 700 dolls kept in the go-down were missing though the boxes they were kept in were found intact, police said.
Rotary clubs from around the world had gifted the dolls to the museum which was established in July 2005.
Police were investigating the incident including any possibility of an insider’s hand in it.
