Mahesana
The district administration of Mahesana today finally gave official permission to hold a Patidar women’s conference (Patidar Mahila Mahasammelan) tomorrow though the prohibitory orders under section 144 of the IPC and a 12 hours ban on the use of mobile internet and social networking site will remain in force, District Collector Lochan Sehra said.
Mr. Sehra said that the permission was not granted earlier as the applicant Niketan Patel had in his application had said that a crowd of around one lakh would assemble for the function on the ground which has only a capacity of 25 thousand. “Today they applied for permission again saying that they will comply with all the norms and abide by law including the number of participants. So the Mamlatdar granted permission after taking police opinon,’ the collector said adding that there was no interference for the High Court in this matter.
‘The prohibitory orders issued by my office and the ban on the mobile internet tomorrow will remain in force to stop any possible misuse of social networking sites. We can’t take chances with the law and order,’ he said.
The Mamlatdar had earlier denied permission for the conference backed by the pro quota stir organization PAAS, to be held on a party plot in the town, a known hub of Patels of Patidars
‘The mobile internet would be banned from 8 am to 8pm,’ the collector said.
PAAS, which is running a quota stir for the Patidar or Patel community had earlier announced to hold the women conference in the town, a known hub of the community despite denial of permission posing a law and order threat for the administration. They had also earlier approached the Gujarat High Court for permission.
