New Delhi
There has been another new revelation in Ishrat Jahan encounter case. This too backs the version that then Congress-led UPA government compromised national security to falsely frame then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi who was at that time emerging as a big political force nationally and potential challenger to rival Congress party for year 2014 Lok Sabha general elections.
The latest revelation has been from Sudhir Kumar, former Special Director of Intelligence Bureau under then Congress led UPA government in centre.
Speaking to a national news channel, Sudhir Kumar said that the Intelligence Bureau input about Lashkar-E-Taiyaba link to Ishrat Jahan was true and that input was sent to the Gujarat government.
Sudhir Kumar said command’s B chain and the government was alerted about Ishrat’s Lashkar link. Politically motivated probe at that time had impacted morale of Intelligence Bureau officers adversely. I.B. team was let down by then leadership and government for its anti-terrorism job. Politicizing the terror issue makes anti-terror machinery weaker.
Sudhir Kumar further said that Ishrat Jahan and Lashkar module both were monitored in Gujarat and Maharashtra. Then joint director of IB Rajendra Kumar and other officers worked very well in this case, but IB was wrongly targeted.
