On the International Women’s Day today, the legislative assembly of Gujarat, which is currently under the regime of its first ever women Chief Minister Mrs. Anandiben Patel, gave a befitting honour to the women folk by handing over all the important functions of the house to ladies for the day.
Assembly Secretary D M Patel said that the seat of speaker for the whole day was occupied by woman MLA of the ruling BJP from Bhuj, Dr Nimaben Acharya instead of the permanent speaker Ganpatbhai Vasava.
‘Not only this but the job of the assembly secretary was also taken up by a lady officer Ms Ritaben Mehta instead of me,’ Mr. Patel said adding that in her job she was assisted by an all women group of three.
Mr. Patel said that the house not only showed respect to the women folk by this all woman show but also sent out a message regarding women’s empowerment and capability.
International Women’s Day (IWD), originally called International Working Women’s Day, is celebrated on March 8 every year.
The Budget session of the Gujarat assembly is currently on and is slated to end on March 31.
