Ahmedabad
Three nurses of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation run L G Hospital in Maninagar area of the city were suspended today while the services of a resident doctor terminated following reports of loss of eye sight in one eye of four patients who were operated upon in the hospital for cataract on Friday last.
Superintendent of the hospital Y S Modi, who has himself been served notice by the commissioner of the AMC, said that one doctor has also been served show cause notice. Three suspended nurses belong to the OT.
He said that the four patients including three women (all from or around Ahmedabad) had complained about diminishing vision in the operated eye two days ago though there were no complication post surgery on Friday. Two of them have now been shifted to the Nagari eye hospital for better treatment while two others have been re-admitted to LG hospital.
To a query regarding the condition of the patients, the superintendent said that it was too early to say whether they would regain their sight in future or not.
Meanwhile Ahmedabad Mayor Gautam Shah visited the hospital today and met the victims and ordered a detailed inquiry in to the matter.
The nurses of the hospital created a ruckus for some time in the office of the superintendent following suspension of their three colleagues.
Such cases were reported some time ago in the AMC run Nagari hospital here and also in a trust run hospital in Rajkot prior to that.
