A 62-year-old man was reportedly mauled to death by a lion when he was camping at Ambariya village in Amreli district today.
Jinabhai Parmar was reportedly dragged away by a lion in the wee hours today when he was sleeping at a camp on the outskirts of the village. He had gone there as the cook of six others engaged in levelling an agricultural land, Assistant Conservator of Forest, N M Muni said.
“His body parts including head and hands were found from a thorny bush some 100 metres from the camp site,” he said.
Forest officials and police rushed to the spot after receiving an information about the incident. Inspection of the site suggests that he was killed by a lion, Muni said.
Amreli district in Gujarat is home to 174 Asiatic lions as per the census conducted by state government last year. PTI
