Dates for Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation election declared

Polling for general election of Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation(GMC) will be held on Sunday, April 24 between 8.00 am and 5.00 pm.

Counting will take place on April 25.

This announcement was made by the State Election Commission.

With this, bypolls of vacant seats of district and taluka panchayats will also take place.

Model code of conduct is effective with this announcement.

This will be the second general election for Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation. Five years back, Congress had won GMC, but later three Congress Councillors switched over to BJP and thus BJP came to power. Since then BJP is ruling party in GMC. While Congress has handed over responsibility of GMC election to former Ahmedabad Mayor Himmatsingh Patel, BJP has given responsibility of this election to State party spokesperson Shri I.K. Jadeja and MoS Shri Shankarbhai Chaudhary.

The elections will take place through electronic voting machine. Online voting system(OVS) option will be available to those who register as e-voter.

By-polls will be held for Dhunadara and Dhima seats of Kheda and Banaskantha district panchayats respectively and Taluka panchayat seats of Raj Charadi, Sara, Jamvali, Vinchhiya, Ukarda, Satlasna, Vansa, Pipli, Koyli, Dhavat, Bhadod, Jagana, Nandotra, Tenivada and Abasana that are part of Dhangadhra, Muli, Thangadh, Vinchhiya, Padadhari, Satlasna, Harij, Dholera, Vadodara, Karjan, Sagbara, Palanpur, Vadgam and Bhabhar taluka panchayats.

Last date of filing nomination is 9 April, scruitiny will take place on 11 April, withdrawal of nomination will be possible till 12 April.
