Bumper potato crop in north Gujarat, prices good, cold storages full

Gandhinagar

Dahegam belt of north Gujarat has again witnessed bumper production of potatoes.Even though 10 more cold storages have been built here in last one year in addition to earlier 20 cold storages, there’s no space left to store any further stock of potatoes.

According to locals, there has been income of 65 lakh bags of potatoes this year. The capacity of cold storages has been up by 20 lakh katta but cold storages are full of their capacity.

Farmers are happy as they are getting Rs 150-225 price for 20 kg. Cold storages had estimated lesser income of potato due to good price and they had reduced the rent of cold storage, but due to bumper production, farmers have turned to cold storage. Drip irrigation and double chaas method of farming are believed responsible factors for bumper crop.
