Gujarat Congress to get Working President soon

It should be mentioned that Solanki was called to Delhi by Congress President Sonia Gandhi early this week. Both Sonia and her son and party vice president Rahul Gandhi are likely to visit Gujarat next month to address two rallies.

Congress party had appointed executive presidents of state party unit in the past in view of regional and caste group balance.

Out of power in Gujarat for 20 years, Congress had in December last made an impressive comeback in rural areas of the state by winning 21 of the 31 district panchayats.

The loss in rural local bodies in Gujarat had come more than a year after Narendra Modi, who ruled the state for 12 straight years, shifted to Delhi in May, 2014.

Congress was virtually obliterated from all tiers of power structure in the state after losing almost every election to BJP under the leadership of then chief minister Narendra Modi.
