As per the new tariff order by Gujarat Energy Regulatory Commission(GERC), the consumer in Urban Development Authority areas shall be charged RGP(Residential General Purpose) Rural Tariff instead of RGP Urban tariff.
Benefit to the consumer will be 40 to 50 paise per unit with this decision.
The total revenue foregone by electricity companies in favor of consumers shall be Rs 17 crore, of which in case of Pashchim Gujarat Vij Company Limited(PGVCL) it will be Rs 8 crore which is highest.
The consumers of Urban Development Authority areas had demanded rural status for their areas to avail benefits of concessional tariff.
The Chief Minister had taken a special interest in resolving the issue.
The state has Urban Development Authorities in Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Junagadh and Gandhinagar.
