Alleging that the Gujarat police had to suffer owing to the political conspiracy around Ishrat Jahan encouter, Retired IPS officer D G Vanzara today said that the current government at center was truly ‘nationalist’ which won’t back down from the issues of national interests as any cost.
In an interview to a Gujarati news channel a day before his return to Gujarat after almost nine years, tomorrow following the permission of a special CBI court on April 2, Mr. Vanzara said,’ I was always hopeful of coming out of jail as I knew that me and my senior officials had done nothing wrong or unlawful. What I did was right and for the good of the nation. Even today when I am a retired person I am ready to do my best for the nation within the framework of law and constitution.’
‘So far the Ishrat Jaha case is concerned, the media itself has said so much about it in the last two months. The political game or conspiracy around it has caused me and the Gujarat police suffer. But now I have come out of the jail as a stronger person and with a much firm belief in my nationalist ideology. I will enter Gujarat as an even stronger person with a desire to do whatever possible for the unity of the state,’ he said.
To a query he said that the current government at center was a nationalist one. ‘It has taken several steps for the nation and I don’t think that it will ever back down on such issues,’ he said.
About being asked regarding his getting bail later than the other accused he said that it was a normal legal process. ‘I might have got it earlier. It was just by chance that those who got it earlier got it earlier,’ he said.
To a query regarding his earlier letter from jail which had the name of former minister of state Amit Shah in it, he said that he had written that but that was now a matter of past and he did not believe in living in the past.
On a question regarding the possibility of his contesting the next assembly elections in Gujarat slated to be held next year, Mr. Vanzara did not give a clear reply and said that 2017 was still far away. ‘All I can say is despite being a police officer I had always led a public life and after my entry in to Gujarat I will keep doing so. I want to do some thing for the unity of Gujarat,’ he said.
He said that he was against the social differentiation on the basis of caste and creed.
The former IPS officer said that it was not necessary to fight the government or be a part of it to bring about social changes.
