Una (Gir-Somnath)
The dawn to dusk bandh call by Gauraksha Dal in Una town of Gir-Somnath district of Gujarat today evoked wide response.
The bandh, supported by local chamber of commerce, was for the demand of ‘Rashtramata’ or national animal status to cow. A procession was also taken out from local post office chowk to the Prant office. Most of the commercial establishments including those in the main market remained closed.
A 26 year old youth of the outfit in Delwada village of Una taluka had also tried to commit suicide by consuming poisonous liquid yesterday.
Earlier on March 17, eight from a cow protection group had collectively consumed poison for similar demand in Rajkot collector office of whom one had died.
