Morbi is traditionally BJP supporting town. Due to quota agitation, Congress had been successful to win Morbi municipality election last year. Now when quota agitation effect is over, BJP has again come to power in Morbi with support of rebel Congress MLAs.

Congress had won 32 of 52 seats in Morbi municipality last year. However, due to infighting and later suspension of city Congress president, local Congress unit was divided into two factions. Boiling point came when committee chairman Naynaben Maheshbhai Rajyaguru’s chamber was locked. 39 Councillors of BJP+rebel faction of ruling Congress later moved motion against municipality president and vice president. However before the board could meet, both tendered resignation as per the party order. Rebel Congress Councillors formed Vikas Samiti about two months back.

Rebel Maheshbhai Rajyaguru who is husband of rebel Congress Councillor Naynaben Rajyaguru(now municipality president) said corruption had very much increased during Congress rule and behavior of Congress organization leaders with Congress Councillors was worst. 1/3rd members can part way with party legally, and following that rule in last April, 11 Congress Councillors formed Vikas Samiti after affidavit and other legal procedures. There are total 12 members in Vikas Samiti at present. They were free to vote as per their wish.

Amit Gami, Bhatasana, Ansoyaben, Champaben Chauhan, Anil Hadiyal, Jadeja Arunaba, Parmar Jayshriben, Ghelani Bhavin, Pujara Varshaben, Dasadia Gauriben, Naynaben Rajyaguru, Kanzaria Arjanbhai and Mamtaben Thakar are 12 members in Vikas Samiti group.

As Vikas Samiti Councillors were taken to unknown place ahead of today’s board meeting so that they can not be influenced by Congress party, the office bearers of Congress party had put up whip of party outside their residences. To avoid any clash, police bandobast was arranged for Vikas Samiti members.
