Murder accused escapes high security Sabarmati central jail by jumping off a 20 ft wall

Ahmedabad: An under-trial accused of murder had escaped from high security Sabarmati Central jail here, police said today.

This is perhaps the first instance of this kind in which accused successfully escaped from central jail in Gujarat.

Around 25 year old Pravin alias Bhola, mysteriously came out of his barrack and reportedly jumped off the around 20 ft high boundary wall closer to watch tower number 6 of the prison, at around 12.30 pm yesterday. When prisoners were sent back to barrack at 6.00 pm, Pravin was found missing during counting process, DySP Dindor said. CCTV footage shows that Pravin climbed 15 ft wall first and then with the help of iron angle he climbed 20 ft wall. According to police, there was not enough current passing through the installation over the wall. Dindor said, there are two walls. The inner wall is shorter while the outer wall is taller. Prisoner could climb taller wall due to its location close to shorter wall.

Prisoner-Escapes-Sabarmati-Jail Pravin was an under-trial accused of murder. An FIR regarding his escape has been lodged in the Ranip police station but the matter has been handed over to the crime branch. Ranip Police Station PI V B Patel said that the matter has been lodged and was being looked in to by the crime branch.

‘The escaped prisoner has not yet been nabbed,’ he said.

Jayrajsinh Kumpavat, police constable who was on duty on tower when Hitesh jumped off the wall has been made accused in this incident.

Police is also searching private clinics in nearby areas, as Pravin might have suffered injury after jumping from 21 ft wall.

The high security Sabarmati jail here was also in limelight for wrong reasons two days ago when the lost revolver of a policeman (who was suspended owing to it) was found from its premises.
