730 kg Ganja seized from Surat railway yard, Odisha smuggler nabbed

Surat: In a joint operation, the Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Surat and Government Railway Police (GRP) today sized a huge amount of Ganja from the railway yard here and arrested a smuggler from Odisha in this connection.

Police said that that 730 kg of Ganja worth around Rs 44 lakh, stuffed in various sacks, was recovered from an old hut in the railway yard here.
“A smuggler Sujan (27), a native of Odisha from where the Ganja was brought, was nabbed from the spot. Two of his aides, who have been identified, are being searched for. The operation was conducted on a tip off,’ a police officer of the LCB said.

He said that it was being investigated as to how such a huge stock of Ganja was transferred most likely by train all the way from far-away Odisha. Any involvement of railway staff was also being looked in to.
