Gujarat CM hands over appointment letters to 2,343 revenue talatis

Gandhinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today exhorted revenue talatis to work as the first proactive link between the government and the people, implementing the state government’s various welfare schemes.

Speaking at a function to mark distribution of appointment letters to 2,343 revenue talatis, including 845 women talatis, at Mahatma Mandir here, he said the post of the talati is the first step to join as government servant. He asked them to adopt a compassionate attitude to serve the needy, poor and the last man in the last mile.

The Chief Minister recalled that the previous Congress governments had banned fresh appointments since 1985, leaving a huge backlog of vacant posts. It was the then Chief Minister Narendra Modi who broke the impasse after 2001 through proper manpower planning, which in turn resulted in change in the work culture.

Earlier, he said that each talati was given several villages. Now on it has been restricted to maximum five villages. He asked the talatis to step into the shoes of the applicants coming to them. He said that the state government is considering ways to create opportunity to promote bright talatis to higher posts.

Congratulating the newly appointed talatis, Revenue Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasma said the post is created for the development of individual, society and the state. He said that government service is the best opportunity to serve the people. The government decision to hold GPSC Class-1 and Class-2 examinations every second year would provide opportunity for youth to join the government service.
