Delivery of vehicle with high security number plate fitted, RC book on same day

Ahmedabad: There has been a backlog of over 5.5 lakh high-security number plates in RTOs across Gujarat. Getting High Security Registration Number Plate(HSRP) for new vehicle has been a tough task for new vehicle owners. One has to take appointment to get HSRP fitted in vehicle. Many don’t turn up for HSRP. The state government is now mulling an experiment based initiative under which high-security number plate will be fitted at dealer’s facilities directly before delivery of vehicle.

A meeting was held in this connection by RTO with dealers of vehicles in Ahmedabad.

In most cases, dealers pay road tax on behalf of customer. The new system is being planned under which registration of vehicle will take place on same day of tax/fee payment and new number plate will be delivered directly to dealer facility where it will be fitted to vehicle before delivery to customer.

With this new system in place, the existing system of allotting temporary number plate will end. Harassment to customers by police and RTO will also end. Long waiting period for appointment will end. Visit to HSRP venue will no longer necessary. Only those who wish to get RTO vehicle registration number of their own choice will be allocated temporary number.

Transport minister Vallabh Kakadia who is working in this direction shared these details.
