President to dedicate revamped Sardar Patel Hospital and Heart Institute in Bharuch this Sunday

Bharuch: President of India Dr Pranab Mukherjee will inaugurate the revamped version of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel hospital and heart institute in Ankleshwar during his Gujarat visit on October 23 in presence of Ram Kathakar Shri Morari Bapu and Rajya Sabha MP Shri Ahmed Patel. The hospital developed by Sardar Patel Trust will have medical care facilities that are otherwise not available in Bharuch district. At present heart patients have to travel to Vadodara, Surat and Ahmedabad for treatment. The new hospital will offer them treatment within Bharuch.

The hospital will be served by heart specialty Dr Rajiv Kharvar. It will have facilities such radial angiography and angioplasty. The hospital has facilities such as cathlab, Intra-aortic balloon pum(IABP), elos facial and eco cardiogram among others. The hospital will have 14 permanent and 20 visiting doctors.

In 1979 late Nathubhai Dulabhai Patel floated an idea of hospital in Bharuch and spoke to his friend and family doctor Shri Bhailalbhai Patel about this. He expressed readiness to give away his 33 guntha land for this purpose. Dr Bhailalbhai Patel, Rotary Club and leading personalities of Bharuch jointly formed a Trust. Nathubhai insisted that the Trust should not have his name. The Trust was therefore named as Sardar Patel Trust.

To make this project of public good possible, Morari Bapu was invited to hold Ram Katha. In 1981, with blessings of Sant Shri Tyagi Maharaj this Katha was organized. Shri Natwarlal Maganlal Mehta hosted this Katha. He donated Rs 11,112 as initial contribution. On appeal of Shri Morari Bapu Rs 4 lakh donation was collected to start the work of public good.

In 1981, Ankleshwar based Dr Barjor Mahervan Anklesaria gave away his Parsiwad based house with Rs 40,000 donation for this hospital. A clinic was started here on 25 October 1985 by then minister Harisinh Mahida.

Sardar Patel hospital was inaugurated by Ram kathakar Shri Morari Bapu on 19 April 1988 in presence of then health minister Vallabhbhai Patel, then Gujarat Congress president Ahmed Patel and JC Chemicals Chairman Jyotibhai Modi. Management of hospital due to financial problems was handed over to Shri Ankleshwar Paper Mills for some time. Due to continued financial issues the hospital faced possibility of closure. In 1996 Jyotibhai took over the management of this hospital in response to request by Ahmed Patel. The hospital continued to function with his Jyotibhai’s help.

With fresh efforts employed by Rajya Sabha MP Shri Ahmed Patel, the Bharuch District Panchayat and ONGC contributed Rs 11,50,000 to this hospital through which 16,000 sq ft construction with 50 beds facility was achieved at the cost of Rs 20 lakh.

Jayprakash Seva Sansthan, ONGC ltd, GAIL ltd, JB Chem and Pharma ltd, UPL, other companies extended their contribution due to which the hospital has achieved its revamped version.

The hospital has now 100 bed facility. It has general surgery, OPD, Indoor physician services, Orthopedic, dental, eyes, physiotherapy, INT, neuro surgery, joint replacement, neuro physician, endoscopy, maxillofacial surgery, heart, kidney, dialysis treatment facilities. It has also facilities for related tests lie MRI, CT scan, Petho lab, ICCU.
