Rajkot: In a bizarre protest to oppose the move of the Narendra Modi government at center to ban the use of Rs 500 and 1000 denomination notes to check circulation of black money and terror funding, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) made cattle eat several of such notes near Astron Chowk in the city this morning.
The local AAP activist Raju Zunja, who also participated in the strange protest event, claimed that it was done to oppose the government’s move which did not provide enough time to the common folk to exchange such notes.
He claimed that many cattle keepers also participated in the event as they were also angry at the move. During the protest notes in the denomination of Rs 500 and 1000, worth around Rs 10000/- were given to the cattle (buffalo) to eat.
However, many locals, who welcomed the government’s decision as a bold step to check the flow of black money, termed the event as a ‘hollow’ publicity stunt. One of them Deepak Bhavsar said that when such notes can be exchanged in banks, what is the use of destroying them like that. “it should be investigated whether the notes used for the purpose were fake or genuine and even if these were genuine, destroying them in such a manner is also a crime as per law,’ he said.
