Gujarat High Court accepts Hardik Patel’s plea partially, allows him to go to Haridwar for 15 days

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court today partially accepted the request of Patidar Ananmat Aandolan Samiti (PAAS) convener Hardik Patel to allow him to go to Haridwar albeit it permitted him to spend only a fortnight there instead of his request of the remaining about two months of his ‘exile’ from Gujarat.
The PAAS leader living in exile of sorts in Udaipur for six moths as per the July 11 order of the high court giving him conditional bail in two sedition cases loged in Surat and Ahmedabad, had moved court recently to seek permission to spend remaining two months of his living outside Gujarat in Haridwar.
The court had earlier imposed a condition that he would have to furnish the court with any change of address during his six month’s externment, and would first have to seek the court’s permission. Owing to this the PAAS leader had sought permission from the court. He had told mediapersons that he wanted to live in oblivion for some days for which he wanted to spend the remaining two months in Haridwar.
The court however did not allow this but granted permission to him to go to Haridwar for 15 days. Currenlty Patel is living in Pratapnagar area of Udaipur.
Earlier he had alleged that the Udaipur police was harassing him and had approached Rajasthan high court by filing a habeas corpus petition to free him from alleged illegal house arrest. The cops justified their action by submitting before the HC that intelligence inputs received by them reflected that the Patidar leader had threat to his life, and therefore they were heavily guarding his house in Udaipur.
Hardik was lodged in Lajpore jail for around 9 months before he was released on bail by the high court. He had himself proposed to the court that if granted bail, he would stay out of Gujarat for six months. He will be eligible to enter Gujarat in January next year.
Meanwhile, It was not immediately clear whether he would go to Haridwar for 15 days or would like to remain in Udaipur till the expiry of the six months exile.
