Injured lion in Gir forest rescued

Junagadh: An adult lion who had fallen ill after sustaining injury in the rear part of his body, has been rescued by the forest department from Kasya area of the Gir forests in Mendarana taluka of Junagadh district.

The nine year old male lion was lying in a hut-like structure (made by the cattle owners or maldharis) inside the forest for past 3 to 4 days. It had fallen ill and had severe injury in its tail. Lying at a place without food for three-four days had made him quite weak,’ RFO of Mendarana Mr Dodiya today said.

‘The lion was somehow caged last evening and was taken to the animal care center in Sashan in neighbouring Gir-Somnath district for treatment,’ he said.

The beast will be left in the jungle once it recovers fully, the RFO informed.
