IT officials resume recording of Mahesh Shah’s statement
December 05, 2016
Ahmedabad: Income Tax department today resumed questioning of city based realtor Mahesh Shah who had disclosed Rs 13,860 crore under Income Disclosure Scheme(IDS) but failed to pay first installment and went missing. Shah after his dramatic resurface at TV channel studio had last week in TV interview admitted that the amount he declared under IDS was not his money. He said he had declared the amount on behalf of others for commission. Shah also said he would declare the names of ‘real owners’ of money before IT officials soon. From TV studio, via Sarkhej police station, Mahesh Shah was brought to Income Tax department office at Ashram road in police security, where over the night his partial statement was recorded by IT officials. He was allowed to leave the place looking at his age and medical condition but was called again to complete his statement today.
Police team took Shah at 11.00 am from his residence in Jodhpur area to IT office today. IT officials started recording his statement at around noon. Post 3.00 pm, a doctor was called at IT office due to poor health of Shah. It should be mentioned that Shah is heart patient and has suffered several heart attacks. On earlier occasion, a day before yesterday Shah’s partial statement was recorded, however according to IT officials it was about just searches conducted at Shah’s premises. There’s great curiosity among people in Gujarat and elsewhere that Shah was playing pawn for whom actually? Who are the big people who could be businessmen, politicians or bureaucrats for whom Shah disclosed Rs 13,860 crore unaccounted money as his own?
