Mahesh Shah makes no revelation on day 2 also, gets more time for wife’s treatment

Ahmedabad: The interrogation of Realtor Mahesh Shah, who had made a last-minute sensational disclosure of Rs 13860 crore under the IDS scheme only to default later, remained ‘inconclusive’ today as well and he did not reveal any names on the second day of his interrogation by Income tax team here today.

He sought 3 to 4 days for the treatment of his wife suffering from cancer which was granted by the IT on ‘humanitarian’ ground.

IT officer and Director (Investigation) P C Modi told newsmen here this evening after around six hours of fruitless interrogation, ”He has sought 3 to 4 days of time for the treatment of his wife which has been granted on humanitarian ground. But all the same he will come forward for further interrogation.”

On being asked whether he has revealed any names about those whose money he has claimed to have declared, Mr Modi categorically said, ”So far he has not given any information about it. We will tell you more after his further interrogation.”

Earlier the IT has interrogated him in the night of December 3 and morning of December 4 for a total of about 8 hours.

The Income tax sleuths today had resumed the interrogation of Shah, who was again provided medical treatment in the IT office in the course.

Police today took him to the IT office from his residence in Jodhpur area of the city amid tight security where he was interrogated further.

The IT department had recorded his partial statement earlier before letting him go home for some rest owing to medical conditions yesterday.

Shah who had surfaced in a TV news channel studio here on December 3 evening after few days of mysterious disappearance was nabbed dramatically while his interview was being aired. During the interview he had claimed that the money was not his own but of a group of people who refused to pay him in the last moment owing to which he could not pay the installment of around 1560 crore out of total over 6000 crore within stipulated time. He had said that he had agreed for the declaration to earn some easy money. Shah had also said that he will reveal all the names before the IT officials.

Meanwhile some cases of alleged fraudulent transactions by Shah have also come to fore.

On the other hand an internal inquiry has been ordered in connection with Shah’s wearing police uniform yesterday while being brought to his daughter’s place even as the Satellite police station in-charge had claimed that the step was necessitated in the wake of security threat to Shah.

Yesterday IT official Mr Modi, had told newsmen that Shah’s partial statement was recorded. He had refused to divulge more information saying it might thwart the ongoing investigation.
