One year left for Gujarat Assembly elections: Core leadership of state BJP meet at Chintan Shibir in presence of Shah

Ahmedabad: Core leadership of Gujarat BJP is meeting today in ‘Chintan Shibir’ (camp for brainstorming) at Kenswille Club outside Ahmedabad in presence of national president Amit Shah. Gujarat is going to witness general elections of assembly exactly after one year in December 2017. Amit Shah, the national president of party is also Gujarat MLA. He has been given responsibility to ensure BJP’s victory in Gujarat in 2017. He is present today in Chintan Shibir.

Barring couple of caste agitations, some weaknesses in specific rural belts and various pockets-centered local anti incumbency scenarios, overall picture of state at this juncture suggests that Gujarat is once again going to elect BJP to power next year, but with lesser number of seats.

Ahead of the 2017 elections, one main area of concern for BJP is Patidar agitation which is in suspended motion at present, but may revive with agitation leader Hardik Patel’s come back to Gujarat next month. Hardik has been sent outside the state for six months by Gujarat High Court. Gujarat government has recently held talks with Patidar community agitators who want reservation for their community. Government has asked agitators to suggest ways how Patidars can be availed reservation quota beyond 49% cap imposed by Supreme Court or alternatively within the cap under OBC category without scrutiny and survey of OBC commission. Patidar agitators have submitted examples of other states with supporting documents to committee appointed by state govt for hearing on their issues. It is the government that has to take stand and give reply now. It is believed that Chief Minister Vijay Rupani is going to get guidance in this regard from party’s core leadership in the state and from national party president Amit Shah before taking next move.Whatever will be the decision, it will be collective decision.
