Taking forward PM’s message, Muslim family in Gujarat conducts ‘cash-less’ Nikah

Surat: Taking forward the message of digital and cashless economy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a unique manner, a Muslim family in Surat city of his home-state Gujarat conducted the “Nikah’ (marriage) of the bride in a ‘cash-less’ way of sorts in which even the gifts to the newly-wed couple were given by cheques/Paytm/debit and credit cards and other instruments of digital banking including the e-wallets.
It is quite a coincident that the event has taken place in Suart again where earlier a marriage during which only tea was served to the guests had even got a special mention during Prime Minister’s radio address Man Ki Baat.
Father of the bride Aafrinbano, Nazir Ahmed Ansari, a resident of Nuri Mohalla in Rampura area of the city, today said that he and the other family members opted for the cash-less marriage to spread the message of the prime minister.
Even the invitation card for the marriage, which took place yesterday, was prepared in the shape of a cheque book. ‘It was a four page cheque book like card. This card itself spoke a lot about the importance of the digital and cashless initiatives of the government. All the guests were told about our plan well in advance during the delivery of the card,’ Ansari said.
‘Every one appreciated the move. The guests gifted through cheques and debit and credit cards and e-wallets. They also felt relieved by doing so in the times when cash is a hard thing to get by,’ he said.
He said that the idea was given to him by his young nephew. ‘The demonetization is a very good move for cleansing the economy of unscrupulous practices and black money and people should adopt the digital ways to help the government in its initiative. The success of our effort shows that it is not that difficult to adopt to cash-less ways. Many of our guests were semi literate yet they made cashless payments,’ Ansari added enthusiastically.
