12 including sister of Congress Corporator nabbed for illicit liquor trade in Gujarat

Rajkot/ Vadodara: Police today nabbed at least 12 people including the sister of a Congress Corporator in connection with illicit liquor trade during raids in Jetpur town of Rajkot district in Gujarat.

Police also recovered Rs 10 lakh cash from one of the nabbed woman bootlegger. Rs 4 lakh of it were in Rs 2000 denomination and remaining six lakh in Rs 100 denomination.

Interestingly the woman corporator of Congress in Jetpur municipality Shardben alias Kaliben Vegda had recently herself raised the issue of illicit liquor trade in the town and demanded strict action against those involved in it.

Rajkot SP Antrip Sood confirmed the arrest of Ms Vegda’s sister Dhaniben who lives closeby to the corporator’s residence. ‘ For the strict implementation of prohibition act and to check the use of liquor during the coming new year day celebrations, we had conducted raids at 31 places in Jetpur town including Vadli Chowk, Nava Darwaza, Narsang Tekri, Gondal Darwaza, Jasmine Talkies etc today.

We arrested 12 people including the sister of the corporator. ‘Dhaniben was found to have kept illicit liquor in her house. Another woman bootlegger Ani alias Dabli was nabbed with Rs 10 lakh cash and liquor. Four among those nabbed today were women.

In a separate such raid in Vadodara city police recovered 520 bottles of Indian Made foreign liquor from the SUV vehicle of notorious bootlegger Aslam Bodia who managed to escape. The liquor and the vehicle have been seized and raids to nab Aslam were on.

In yet another incident in Rajkot today the crime branch today nabbed a man with Rs 5 lakh in Rs 2000 denomination. He was caught on a tip off while carrying the cash in his Activa near Kotecha chowk.
